Virtual towers Online Hex Demo

You might remember I did the 001.03a version of Virtual Towers Online a while ago. I wanted to check out the earlier Virtual Towers Online HEX demo.

This one probably wont be as long a piece as it is only a small demo.

Menus

Hex Main Menu

All the menu’s are pretty basic and that’s fair enough. Not a big deal this was released before the more recent 001.03a release.

Environment & External Graphics

Virtual towers - Hex Towers 2

It’s easy to tell this came very early on there’s not much to see other than the hex ride itself. Like the X-Sector demo its really nicely done and the detail is superb. The detail even goes as far as recreated signs for Hex.

A few area’s that could do with a little polish. There are a few frame rate issues and tearing here too but its all expected its early days for this game.

Ride Detailing

Detailing on the ride is superb the queues look fantastic and realistic. I have never been on Hex. I needed to check out some reference shots online to see exactly how it looks. After looking at them it’s very close indeed and so really great job here. The plants around the paths and stuff just add realism and of course the biggest detail is the towers themselves.

Everything is just fantastic as you can see in my last section about the external graphics quality even the doors to the ride look amazing.

The Ride

(I did brighten the output shots a little as they were very dark)

Virtual towers - On Hex 1

Going inside I was quite curious what the ride actually was I have never been on hex or what its ride system is. And I actually did not watch any video’s prior to trying this demo (seriously that’s true).

I found out later Hex is built on Vekoma’s “Mad House” technology.

Interesting bit for this piece

Hex is not the only ride in the UK to use the same technology Drayton Manor’s The Haunting has been open since 1996. Both rides use the same Vekoma “Mad House” system but have different stories and theming.

That’s just cool.

In Conclusion

The Hex demo just shows the care and quality this team puts into the Virtual Towers online Project. While some issues exist in this demo picking fault would be unfair.

This is early alpha so again expecting perfection would be not fair to the developers it’s a very good and certainly worth checking out.
